Conservation Run

Moses KIPTANUI

Conservation Run…

The Annual Conservation Run is a signature event of the Eldoret-Iten Water Fund, blending environmental action with athletic excellence. Held under the esteemed patronage of Mr. Moses Kiptanui, legendary middle-distance Kenyan athlete and respected businessman, the event brings together schools from across the Eldoret-Iten Water Fund’s catchment for a day of spirited competition and environmental care. More than just a race, the Conservation Run is a platform to inspire and nurture young talent. Top finishers (positions 1, 2, and 3) are mentored by Mr. Kiptanui himself, with opportunities to join elite athletics camps in Kapsait and potential sponsorships that could elevate their talent to the international stage. The event also serves as a powerful community mobilization platform, drawing participation from national and county government officials, the private sector, civil society, academia, and local communities.

Together, they amplify the message of ecosystem restoration, climate resilience, and sustainable livelihoods. The schools are awarded indigenous tree seedlings, ceremonial trophies, medals and certificates, celebrating both their athletic spirit and environmental commitment in recognition of their efforts as they commit to lasting environmental stewardship by:

Actively engaging in Eldoret-Iten Water Fund activities throughout the year.

Establishing active Environmental Clubs with designated patrons.

Planting indigenous trees within school compounds and along riparian zones.
